Death breathes life into an episode one. Twin Peaks washed up
Laura Palmer's body on the beach, EastEnders killed Old Reg in his
armchair, The Avengers wiped out its hero's fiancee, and justified
the title of the show. Six Feet Under - which seems, on the strength
of its first instalment, to be assured its place in TV's garden of
fond remembrance - opens by mangling the body of Nathaniel Fisher,
the man who looks as if he's going to be the main character. And this
being a series in which violent expiry makes no impact upon screen-
time, things may yet turn out that way.
