You mention Madaline Marshall Bunn to most people who've lived
here a while and they recognize the name of the lady who brought
fame to this county with her James River High School student team's
multiple debate trophies.
No newcomer to the area, she missed being born here only because
her father's job working as an agent for the railroad took the
family to Maryland's Cumberland Gap, where she was born in 1912. "I
was supposed to have been born in Cloverdale but I was stubborn and
was born a month late," she said.
She's the product of a purely Cloverdale romance. "My father was
one of the first telegraphers at Cloverdale station." And her
