Last Friday was another day of celebration in the life of Randy
Barnes.
The Olympic champion was one of eight St. Albans High graduates
inducted into the school's Hall of Fame during a dinner at Scarlet
Oaks.
He attended the ceremony with his brother, Lee, and his parents,
Ralph and Mary Lou Barnes, who live in South Charleston.
Chatting before the dinner, Barnes said he did not participate in
the Goodwill Games currently being held in New York because the money
wasn't right.
"They were paying good money to the runners and to other events,
but not in the shot put," he said.
But there may have been a more compelling reason Barnes didn't
compete.
