Like a lot of Phillies fans, the first time I heard of Chris Coste was during spring training two years ago.

He had also been to major-league camp in 2005, but then he was just an anonymous guy with zero chance of making the season- opening, 25-man roster.

In 2006, though, the career minor-leaguer put on such an offensive show, hitting an astounding .462, that the Philly media and fans - not to mention the club's coaches and front office - stood up and took notice.

That kind of feel-good story is just too good to ignore. Hollywood couldn't have written a better script.

But the expected happy ending to the Coste saga didn't materialize right away, as he was sent down to Philadelphia's Class ...
