It costs Kurt Ignasiak about $80 to fill up his minivan and quite
a bit more to fill up his work vehicle.
But he gets about 18 miles to the gallon with his minivan,
compared with 3 to 5 gallons per mile for his other transport -- a
KC-135 Stratotanker plane.
When Ignasiak, a master sergeant in the Wisconsin Air National
Guard 128th Air Refueling Wing, connected the boom of the KC-135 to
an F-16 fighter jet last week, the jet fuel flowing from one plane
to another cost $4.07 a gallon. Five years ago, the Refueling Wing
paid 86 cents a gallon.
During a recent training mission, each one of the F-16 jets from
the Wisconsin Air National Guard's 115th Fighter Wing topped off its
