Q. Is there hope for Eastman Kodak Co.? It does finally seem to
have some things going for it. - F.C., via the Internet
A. This famous name in photography has completed its
transformation into a smaller digital-products and services company.
Yet even though the four-year restructuring program that sliced
its work force by more than half, to 26,900, is now over, the
company hasn't had sustained profitability.
It recently increased prices by as much as 20 percent on some
film, paper and printing-plates products because of rising prices of
raw materials such as silver, aluminum and petroleum.
Sales of its cameras, digital picture frames and inkjet printers
are up, but losses for that division ...
