THIS YEAR'S County Championship is boiling up into a classic.
Contrary to expectations, and despite the fact that Surrey have
headed the First Division pretty much all the way through, it is not
a one- horse race.
The question is not, "Who can stop Surrey?", but rather, "Can
Surrey hold off Kent and Warwickshire?" The canny cash is beginning
to find its way behind Warwickshire. They have a game in hand over
their two close rivals and a similar advantage over fourth-placed
Sussex, who are also not out of it, while even Leicestershire cannot
be written out of the script, although if they were to pull it off
and overtake everyone else it would border on a modern-day miracle.
