The mother of a gifted 10-year-old boy who tragically drowned
in the River Severn has paid tribute to the son who had a "smile
that could melt your heart".
Tom Haile's body was found on Monday morning 400 yards from where
he had been playing in the water with his uncle and cousin the
previous evening.
Several last-ditch attempts were made by the two family members
to rescue Tom, but he was swept away.
He was a "brilliant" mathematician who dreamed of becoming a
policeman and loved sports.
An inquest yesterday at Shire Hall in Gloucester heard that a
post-mortem examination had revealed that Tom, from Hardwicke near
