Technology had been less than kind to Drew Townson's career. A recording engineer by trade, the 48-year-old Rockland resident was forced to turn to selling professional audio equipment when the increased availability of digital recording equipment spurred a drop in demand for recording engineers in the mid-1990s. Then, after a decade as a salesman, Townson says he was fired last year for starting a blog against his boss's wishes.

So it is perhaps fitting that Townson's latest venture - an online analog recording equipment boutique called Analog Planet - employs the latest in online marketing to sell equipment that hails from a bygone era.
