NORTHERN Ireland hotels enjoyed their best year in 2007 since the first paramilitary ceasefires, according to research published today.

The sector outperformed Dublin, with major rises in the number of visitors from Europe and the US, a consultants' survey found.

Increased demand for hotel bedrooms has been fuelled by overseas holidaymakers, short-break and business tourists.

Michael Williamson, director of hotel consulting at ASM Horwath, said: "In almost 15 years of producing the report these are the best results achieved and by some considerable margin.
