It is the smart community that studies the experiences of other,
similar communities before taking on major capital expenses. Because
Evansville is considering building a new public arena, possibly
Downtown, the Courier & Press decided to take a close-up look at
Corpus Christi, Texas, which in 2004 built an 8,600-seat arena in
its downtown district.
The issues are similar, and for that reason the Corpus Christi
situation may prove instructive to Evansville residents and leaders
who are weighing the question of whether our city can and should
build an arena to replace Roberts Stadium.
Corpus Christi has about 285,000 residents, while Evansville has
