Article: Triathlon in choppy waters as police withdraw support

THE future of a city triathlon looks uncertain after organisers cancelled this year's race because police refused to attend.

Officers said competitors could take part in the Portobello triathlon at their own risk but said safety reasons prevented their own attendance.

Lothian and Borders Police has previously written letters to the organisers of sporting events, discouraging them from using open roads.

The race was due to be held on August 10 but an e-mail was sent on Wednesday informing athletes of the last minute cancellation.
