Article: Drive a hard deal on car hire rates

CAR hire rates for British drivers in Europe this summer are falling in the face of fierce competition - as major operators battle for bookings against newcomers keen to undercut rates and charges.

Rory Sexton at Economy Car Hire says: "The industry is becoming more expensive at the peak, less expensive in the rest of the year. Plenty of winter rentals are struck around pounds-8 per day."

However, the fall of the pound against the euro - pushing some car rental prices up 16-per cent-17-per cent since last September - has slowed the pace of early bookings - and that's causing aggressive discounting among rival suppliers.
