CHICAGO -- The combination of a high pitch count and lower back
tightness forced Ian Snell to make an early exit from Sunday's game
against the Chicago Cubs.
Snell failed to hold an early two-run lead and was undone by a
barrage of doubles in the fourth inning. The Pirates rallied with
three runs in the eighth, including a two-run, game-tying homer by
Andy LaRoche.
However, the first-place Cubs countered in the bottom of the
eighth. Reed Johnson smacked a two-run, pinch-hit homer, and Alfonso
Soriano followed with a solo blast. Chicago ripped the Pirates, 8-
5.
Craig Hansen (0-1) took the loss. The recently acquired reliever
