Planners are asking us to think of Harrisburg Pike as a
laboratory.
And you thought it was just another congested strip of Lancaster
County asphalt.
Well, you're right about the congested part. Up to 28,000
vehicles a day travel the section between Prince Street and
Dillerville Road.
For perspective, consider that 28,000 vehicles is 40 percent of
the daily traffic on divided Route 30 west of Park City.
At the peak of the afternoon rush, almost 1,000 vehicles an hour
are heading out of town on Harrisburg Pike, adding an extra six
minutes to the five-mile commute from Prince Street to State Road -
more time if there's an accident, something that happens about 75
times a year on that stretch.
