FIVE members of an infamous criminal family are today serving
jail terms of up to 11 years each for a string of raids on stately
homes - including Britain's biggest ever burglary.
The men, all part of the notorious Johnson family of Travellers,
stole priceless antiques worth tens of millions of pounds during a
year-long spree.
Described as "ruthless and organised", the gang brought terror to
a number of wealthy homes across Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire
and Worcestershire where they knew there would be "rich pickings".
Country mansions would be staked out, sometimes for weeks, while
the group pinpointed the best means of entry and escape.
Then they would strike - often smashing their way ...
