This time a year ago, I wrote a column mourning the changes that
have been visited upon Kanawha City, my neighborhood, as a result of
the any-development-is-progress mentality among the powers that be,
powers that live comfortably secluded in the 25314 ZIP code area and
don't have to stare their projects in the face every day.
At that time, I thought I was the only person around who
considered Wal-Mart to be a crap corporation, billboards to be a
blight on the landscape, the mountain backdrop to the city worthy of
preservation, and CAMC a cancer on the valley floor. I was wrong,
I'm happy to write.
The scar on the mountain behind Watt Powell Park is grassed over.
