ST. LOUIS - A commanding presence on the mound and in the St.
Louis Cardinals' clubhouse, Chris Carpenter's dramatic return to
action left his manager and teammates searching for descriptive
adjectives.
"It's amazing," said manager Tony La Russa.
"It's awesome," added middle infielder Aaron Miles.
Although NL Central Division rivals Chicago and Milwaukee landed
Rich Harden and CC Sabathia, respectively, through trades, the
Cardinals didn't feel pressured to make a quick deal because of the
re-emergence of Carpenter and the expected return of Adam
Wainwright.
