If you can't get hold of lovely sweet strawberries in season,
this dessert also works really well with flavourful raspberries.
Strawberries epitomise our summers and there are many varieties
to choose from.
I really don't mind which ones I buy as long as they are fresh,
homegrown and taste good.
Strawberries first appear as early as May and are with us through
the summer.
Please don't buy strawberries that originate somewhere in the
southern hemisphere in winter.
I can assure you that no amount of sugar will improve their
flavour.
If, during the winter months, you crave the flavour of
strawberries, then enjoy them in their preserved form - as jam, or
as a flavoured liqueur or vinegar.
