Tourists leaving Exeter for their summer holidays may not be
aware of it, but the city's airport is home to the largest
collection of Hawker Hunter jets in the country, with 13 examples of
the classic aeroplane.
The Hawker Hunter was a jet fighter aircraft of the 1950s and
60s, which served for many years with the RAF and was widely
exported, serving with 19 air forces. It is a hugely popular
aircraft, both with its pilots and with those who have simply
watched it in action, and people living in the Westcountry have some
of the best examples of these much-loved planes right on their
doorstep.
