If county officials have their way, local fast-food diners will see the Big Mac as big in fat, the Macho Burrito as muchas calorias and the Whopper with cheese as a whopping gut-buster.

To get residents to slim down, Los Angeles County supervisors and health advocates announced plans Thursday to require fast-food and chain restaurants to list calorie information on visible menu boards.

The proposed ordinance comes on the heels of a number of local, state and national initiatives and studies to promote better eating.
