Insurers are under fire for treating loyal customers with disdain
- frequently doubling annual premiums simply because a policyholder
dared to make a small claim. Letters from readers reveal that even
minor claims can result in premiums being doubled, even though the
policyholder has been a loyal customer for many years.
Which?, the consumer champion, is outraged by the practice. "If
insurance companies are doubling people's premiums for making small,
legitimate claims, then that is unfair to loyal customers," says Dan
Moore, senior researcher.
Take the case of John Checkley. For over 20 years he has had both
his building and contents insurance with Norwich Union. As he says:
