Article: Fifty green activists arrested trying to storm power station

ENVIRONMENTAL protesters clashed violently with police yesterday as more than 1,000 demonstrators converged on a power station in a bid to shut it down.

Police made more than 50 arrests, taking the total during the week-long protest against Kingsnorth Power Station to more than 100.

And 123 demonstrators were rescued by police boats after trying to row to the coal-oil power station against force six winds. Kent's Assistant Chief Constable Gary Beautridge said: "They were at risk of hypothermia. The majority of them were very pleased to be rescued."
