Residents of the Hill District heard two very different proposals
on Saturday for a neighborhood supermarket at Centre Avenue and
Dinwiddle Street.
Kuhn's, a locally owned chain of eight supermarkets, is proposing
a full-service grocery that would be part of a larger development
called Centre City Square. Save-A-Lot, based in St. Louis, is
proposing a smaller, discount operation.
"They are both interesting proposals. We want to make certain
that the store we pick will stay," Tonya Payne, the City Council
member who represents the Hill District.
It has been more nearly three decades since the neighborhood had
a supermarket, and residents must travel to other communities to
shop.
