Profile: For Li Ning, anything is possible

BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Gymnast Li Ning became a national hero by sweeping three gold medals at the 1984 Log Angeles Games where the new China made a stunning Olympic appearance that ended the country's three-decade-long Olympics isolation.

On Friday night, the athlete-turned-entrepreneur lit the Olympic cauldron at the National Stadium.

Hailed as "gymnastics prince", Li garnered 106 national and international title during 17 years as a competitor.

He peaked in the Los Angeles Games, winning three golds, two silvers and one bronze, becoming the most-medaled athlete in that games.
