Sanchez wins Spain first gold at Beijing Olymic Games
BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Cyclist Samuel Sanchez claimed
Spain's first gold at the Beijing Olympics after winning the men's
road race here on Saturday afternoon.
The 30-year-old Spanish man clocked six hours, 23 minutes and 49
seconds to take the gold after a supreme display of team riding.
"I even did not notice it is the first gold for my delegation,"
Sanchez said. "I just concentrated on the race and did not think
much about it."
Sanchez demonstrated his endurance and stamina through team work
and pulled out the leading group at the last 200 meters to seal the
win.
