The long-awaited deal between Airbus and partner company GKN that
will shape the future for more than 6,000 aviation industry workers
in Bristol will go through this week, according to industry
insiders.
But rumours are also circulating that United Airlines is about to
cancel an order for 42 Airbus aircraft - and that could be the tip
of the iceberg as analysts have predicted that the group could lose
more than a quarter of its orders.
Airbus and GKN have been in talks for months, finalising the
transaction that will see GKN take over ownership and management of
the planemaker's base at Filton and launch a new composite plant at
Easter Compton, near Avonmouth.
