Angry customers in Plymouth have criticised South West Water for proposing above inflation price rises between 2010 and 2015.

The Consumer Council for Water yesterday warned South West Water has proposed the average metered water and sewerage bill could rise by 12.5 per cent from pounds373 in 2009/10 to pounds421 in 2015 - and that's before inflation.

Unmetered water and sewerage bills would rise by 40 per cent, from pounds677 in 2009/10 to pounds951 in 2015 before inflation, said the council.

Following the announcement, Paddy Ryan, of the Devon Pensioners' Action Forum, called on people to protest against the proposed hikes.
