PITTSBURGH -- When it was mentioned before the game Wednesday,
Aug. 13, to Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker, "So, you're getting
Micah Owings in the Adam Dunn trade," Baker forgot himself for a
moment and said, "Yeah."
Then he quickly recovered, realizing this isn't to be talked
about yet, and added, "Really?"
Owings won't be coming until after the season, but he's coming.
Why not now? The right-handed pitcher had to clear waivers, and a
baseball official said Washington General Manager Jim Bowden claimed
Owings.
That would force Arizona to pull Owings off waivers, meaning he
couldn't be shipped to the Reds until after the season -- and that
might be a good thing.
