CLAYTON -- A proposed ordinance that would prohibit Clayton residents from placing and using basketball hoops on public right- of-way, or at curb level was the topic of spirited discussion at the Aug. 7 meeting of City Council.

Clayton Public Safety Director Richard Rose introduced the legislation that was prompted by some complaints of large groups of students playing basketball in the street at several locations in the city. There was concern for the children's safety, as well as what Rose said were some issues of the basketball hoops extending out into the street and causing damage to passing vehicles.

Councilwoman Dawn Tindall was opposed to the ordinance.
