Holding court in the Los Angeles Dodgers' dugout during his
return to St. Louis last week, former Cardinals player and manager
Joe Torre spun stories while rabid reporters scribbled down every
word.
Torre recalled catching Milwaukee Braves' left-handed ace Warren
Spahn as he faced Stan "The Man" Musial in a battle of future Hall
of Famers in the early 1960s.
"I was at old, old Busch Stadium (Sportsman's Park) and 'Spahnie'
had trouble getting out Stan Musial, as a lot of pitchers did," said
Torre, in his first year managing the Dodgers after spending the
last 12 as the skipper of the New York Yankees.
"He decided to drop down sidearm and Stan never budged, which was
