Colorado Springs Financial Briefs: August 15, 2008

In El Paso County, employment and wages are higher than a year ago, but the unemployment rate has increased slightly because workers are entering the labor force at a faster rate than job growth can accommodate, said Dr. Fred Crowley, senior economist, at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and the Southern Colorado Economic Forum.

"However, Colorado Springs has yet to have a month of job loss this year," he said, despite national job-loss patterns of seven consecutive months, citing statistics from the Southern Colorado Economic Forum's quarterly Business Conditions Index for El Paso County.
