Pete monaghan from Torquay's Torbay AC nipped across to Paignton
and helped himself to the winner's trophy at the Paignton Regatta
Mile, the main event in the 2008 regatta athletics meeting.
Monaghan, a previous winner, had not defended his crown last year
at the meeting, organised by Paignton-based South Devon AC, but
returned for this year's race determined to regain the silverware.
From the start a group of five runners detached themselves from
the main field - Monaghan, South Devon AC duo Jamie Duffield and Rob
Brennan, Matt Williams from Notts AC and Stewart Dunn from
Teignbridge Trotters. The five quickly became a trio, with Duffield
and Brennan shadowed by Monaghan, but around the ...
