Today marks the first anniversary of the horrific Penhallow Hotel
fire which claimed three lives.
Terrifying images of roaring scarlet flames stabbing the night
sky from the roof of the Edwardian building on the seafront at
Newquay continue to haunt all who were involved.
In scenes more reminiscent of the Second World War blitz, Monica
Hughes, 86, her son Peter, 43, and Joan Harper, 80, perished.
The events that unfolded on the night of August 18 just after
midnight singled out the hotel fire as the worst in Britain for 30
years.
The 54-bedroom hotel had been full with 90 guests including the
Hughes' and Mrs Harper from Staffordshire.
Police launched a murder inquiry when it became all too ...
