It stands as a chilling reminder of the catastrophic events of
that night. The site of the once thriving Penhallow Hotel lies
empty.
For weeks the smouldering ruins were treated as a major crime
scene. Specialist fire investigators clad in white protective
clothing tirelessly scoured what was left of the structure in a
battle to unearth clues.
Through their painstaking efforts, investigators established the
fire had been started with a naked flame in a storeroom behind the
bar on the ground floor.
