To compare a pair of blockbusters, the offseason deal that sent
former Minnesota Twins ace Johan Santana to the New York Mets in
February was to the baseball world what "The Dark Knight" has been
to Hollywood this summer.
While the film's sterling reviews are set in stone, how
successful the baseball trade has been for both parties remains
uncertain.
Once the Twins began to shop the Santana, who will make his
second career start at PNC Park today against the Pirates, the top
franchises in baseball began to battle over him. The New York
Yankees and Boston Red Sox made overtures to the Twins, but it was
the Mets who landed the Venezuelan fireballer who owns a wicked
changeup.
