BEIJING -- After racing through nine days at warp speed, Michael
Phelps wanted nothing more Sunday than to simply stop moving.
Even the most decorated swimmer in Olympic history needs a rest.
Phelps certainly earned the vacation he plans to take, but he won't
be away for long. The eight gold medals he won in Beijing represent
only one step in his one-man crusade to win fans for his sport, and
if all goes according to plan, he will be back at the 2012 Games in
London with a new program of events.
Having conquered the 200-meter distance in the butterfly,
freestyle and individual medley, Phelps, 23, wants to add sprints to
the menu. Someone else will get a shot to win the 400 individual
medley ...
