Bring up the name of a majorleague player from Rich "Goose"
Gossage's era, and he'll probably have a story about him.
What about former Milwaukee Brewer Robin Yount, whom Gossage will
join in Baseball's Hall of Fame on July 27?
"He hit a pop-up one night, it was in the '81 playoffs ...,"
Gossage started when he heard Yount's name.
Gossage says the rest of the story won't be fit to print, and
he's right. The short, clean version is that Yount thought a foul
ball was trapped on the screen when catcher Rick Cerone caught it to
end an inning. Yount argued and Gossage, in his gentle, subdued way,
told Yount he was indeed out.
