Had Steve Braun faced Rich "Goose" Gossage more often, maybe
they'd both be going in the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday.
Braun is far from a big name, with 989 hits for five major league
teams over a solid 15-year career as a utility player. But of all
the players Gossage faced, from Hank Aaron to Barry Bonds and Ken
Griffey Sr. to Ken Griffey Jr., Braun had the most hits off him.
Braun had 13 hits in 38 at-bats for a .342 average against Gossage,
according to baseball-reference.com.
"Did I really?" said Braun, who runs summer camps, winter hitting
clinics and pitching programs in New Jersey. "I never knew that."
