Commuters aren't the only ones feeling the oil crunch.
Rural school districts in the Pikes Peak region are cutting back
on supplies and renovation projects, taking energysaving measures,
revamping school schedules and scrutinizing their sports teams'
transportation schedules, all with one purpose: to make sure there's
enough money in their budgets to pay for diesel for their buses.
School buses are the lifelines of rural districts, picking up
students from the far corners of boundaries. Some districts
anticipated rising fuel costs last year and adjusted their budgets
and some programs -- but there are fears that it might not be
enough.
