Greg Place flinches at the soaring fuel costs.
He is the athletic director at Greenville High School, located in
"no-man's land," as he puts it. As an independent in Darke County,
the Green Wave sports teams have to make some long road trips.
"It's hurting us immensely since we're in the western part of the
Miami Valley," Place said.
"It's a double-edged sword as an independent. We're not in a
(geographic-friendly) league. There's an added burden of almost
having to go anywhere to play. We don't want to cut back on any
activities because it's all about the kids and participation."
