Now is the perfect time to select your fall and winter planting
bulbs. The nurseries have a nice selection of bulbs. You should be
able to find all the sizes and colors before they are picked over.
Most bulbs like at least six hours of full sun and good drainage
in amended soil. A bulb booster or bone meal placed in the hole will
improve the color and quality of the flowers, plus increase the size
of the bulb for next year. Bulbs that are ready to plant in
September include anemones, crocus and other tiny bulbs.
The larger bulbs can be planted in October and November. Tulips
do best if placed in the refrigerator for six weeks to chill before
