Article: Lake water quest dries up <> Elm Grove instead will look at tapping into Brookfield groundwater

An Elm Grove request for Lake Michigan water is on hold and the village is seeking to buy groundwater instead from Brookfield, after Milwaukee's water utility rejected Elm Grove's plan to run new water lines to Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Water Works has concluded that although it is technically feasible to install new mains along Blue Mound Road to connect Elm Grove and Milwaukee, which share no border, Elm Grove instead should tap into existing mains in Wauwatosa or West Allis, possibly in a joint deal with Brookfield.

Running new lines along Blue Mound Road would cost $2.7 million to $3.8 million and tear up a busy corridor that recently was repaved, said Carrie Lewis, Milwaukee Water Works' ...
