Romanian investors suffer heavy losses as stock markets dip

BUCHAREST, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- The decline in the Romanian stock market this year has dealt a serious blow to investors, 91.6 percent of whom have suffered losses since early 2008, local daily Cotidianul reported Wednesday.

About 13.4 percent investors have lost more than half the value of their portfolios since early 2008 due to a market decline, a recent survey showed.

Meanwhile, 22.5 percent of the investors registered losses ranging between 40 and 50 percent of the initial value of their investment.

Only 4.2 percent of the investors said they had earned money and another 4.2 percent said they had broken even.
