A hero lifeguard swam through one of Britain's most notorious
stretches of water to reach two stranded teenage brothers because
the sea was too rough for the lifeboat.
Rnli lifeguard Ross Hamley, 20, knew it would take half an hour
for the rescue helicopter to arrive to winch the boys to safety so
he decided to reach them first - swimming more than 320ft through
treacherous seas during the dramatic rescue.
He risked being dashed against jagged boulders at Wrangles Rocks
in Bude, Cornwall, in atrocious conditions, but managed to get to
the boys and keep them safe until a helicopter from RNAS Culdrose
arrived and lifted all three to safety.
