Elyse Nikonchuk was sidelined with an injury before the 2005
Missouri soccer season opener, so freshmen Mo Redmond and Meghan
Pfeiffer were paired together in the midfield for the Black and Gold
Game.
About 25 minutes into the scrimmage against the Missouri men's
club team, Redmond, one of the Tigers' most skilled players,
received the ball in the center of the field but whiffed.
"I've never seen her do that before," Pfeiffer said.
Pfeiffer collected the ball and attempted a left-footed shot from
about 30 yards out, but her cleat got stuck in the ground and she
tore her anterior cruciate ligament. Her freshman season was over
before it started.
