Article: HE GAVE HIS LIFE TO SHOES, GOD REST HIS SOLE

I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT SHOES. Not in an Imelda Marcos obsessive way, but just generally. It is that time of year when other people's feet are on display and I can't say that I am keen. Feet are the frayed edges of the body and rarely, except on small children, an object of delight. I am fairly confident that when shoes were invented several millennia ago, it wasn't because someone wanted to protect themselves from frost and fungus, but at the request of their nearest and dearest.

When I was about eight I had the most marvellous pair of shoes. They were called Tuf and they featured impressions of animal tracks
