Article: Tri-state week in review: Planned Parenthood facility's opening draws picketers

Opponents picketed outside as Dubuque's Planned Parenthood facility opened for business Thursday.

The center opened at 10 a.m. at 1766 Central Ave.

Four picketers held opposition signs Thursday morning.

"They have been very respectful, and that is what we would expect," said Joe Lock, president and chief executive officer of Planned Parenthood of East Central Iowa. Lock welcomed the attention prompted by the protests.

Ellen Markham, recently retired as the local Right to Life executive director, picketed as part of a newly formed coalition. "We are a coalition to expose the truth about Planned Parenthood," Markham said.
