A city actress has won a coveted place at a top French theatre school.

Gemma Conidis, aged 24, from St Judes, has won a two-year placement on a professional theatre training course at the international Jacques Lecoq theatre school in Paris.

The internationally acclaimed school teaches physical theatre, and Gemma's course will involve mime, acrobatics and clowning.

Gemma said: "There is a lot of competition to get in, so I'm very excited and nervous. The course will be very challenging, as it's taught in French, and I didn't even do GCSE French!

"I never thought I'd have the chance to do something like this on my own, and in a foreign country.
