Dozens of Plymouth care homes are facing closure due to a lack of
adequate funding from the council and NHS, according to industry
experts.
At least 10 have shut in the past five years and one industry
insider predicts more than 40 will close during the next decade. It
means elderly and ill people will have to be cared for at home, as
the Government wants, or in hospital - heaping more pressure on NHS
beds and finances.
Care homes, which have seen costs soar to meet higher Government
standards, said they are not paid enough to look after old people.
They receive less than pounds500-a-week for every resident
